Serpentine! Now With Glorious Coder Art and Amazing AI-Generated Music
[/sarcasm]

What's it about?

This is just a remake of an old C64 games from the early 80's. It's a variation of "Snake". Instead of eating by yourself and growing until there is no room left you are in an enclosed level with other snakes.

You grow if you successfully eat/kill a snake, and you can only do that by biting their tail off so that they have less than one segment left, or eat their head off if you are bigger than them. Two same-sized snakes colliding head to head will both die.

From time to time the last segment of a snake's tail will transform into an egg, which the snakes will drag along until it is too big. At that point the egg will get dropped wherever it happens to be, and after 30 seconds a new snake will spawn and try to crawl back to the player or NPC starting point (whichever apply). A spawn that successfully reaches its home base adds a life to whichever faction it belongs too.

Oh, by the way : foreign eggs are super nutritious ... as in : you also grow if you eat them.

How do I play?

There are two different control schemes that can be switched on the main screen at the bottom right.

The default is absolute 4-way controls, in which the direction you press is the direction the snake will move toward. So if you press RIGHT your snake will try to move toward the right side of the map, no matter which direction it was crawling before that.

The alternative control scheme is relative to the direction your snake is currently moving. If you press RIGHT the snake will TURN right, relative to its current direction (so, for example, it will move toward the left after pressing right if it was originally moving downward).

How do I win?

Right now there is no real way to win. If you eat up all the NPC snakes on one level you will move to the next level, and that's basically it. I'll probably implement some scoring based on whatever you ate, but, as always with my games : this is just me exploring ideas and faffing around ...

Please let me know whether you're interested in a more substantial version and I'll see what I can do :)

Also, I might release the source code if anyone needs/wants it. It's really not the most complicated game ever though, so probably best to write your own version of it yourself ... there ARE some nifty things to figure out :)

Is anything in there AI Generated?

Yes ... the title image of the snake was generated using Flux locally, the music pieces were generated using a paid account on Udio. Sue me for not paying for art for a simple game I don't monetize in any way whatsoever, just because I wanted a title screen and music. /shrug

The code (which is really not complicated) wasn't generated by any coding assistant actually.
